Z656 Digital Publishing: Final Project
Proposal (250–500 words). Due March 26th.
Write a short proposal outlining your project. Your proposal should briefly discuss:
- content
- intended audience
- significance of project
- preliminary technological plan for the project
Infrastructure diagram and interface wireframes. Due TBA.
- Create one or more diagrams illustrating the design and workflow of the technical solution ot your final project.
- Create a set of wireframe documents illustrating your initial interface ideas for your project. Wireframes may be hand drawn (though they should still look professional) or produced with software. There are many free and non-free wireframing apps for many platforms.
Final Project
Use XML and XSLT to create digital content and publish it digitally, i.e., on the Web and/or in Ebook format.
Given the orientation of our class, your content would typically be some sort of textual document(s): e.g., literary, historical, cultural documents; business documents; government documents; medical documents; etc. More data-oriented projects are also possible (e.g. scientific data, medical data, social media data, bibliographic data, etc.)
Your completed final project will include consists of two parts:
- The digital component of your project: Your content published in one or more digital formats (e.g., the Web, mobi, ePub, etc.). The content should be in XML format and XSLT should be used in some part of the publishing process.
- Documentation
- Overview and significance of project
- Detailed description of the content and source(s) of the content (Oxford Text Archive, Project Gutenberg, etc.) an
- Content/Data: Discussion of the XML format (e.g., TEI, EAD, DocBook, etc.) adopted or developed for the content
- Technical description of the publishing system used to deliver the content. Don’t repeat all the technical detail that can be found in the documentation for each technology or system. Rather, describe the overall system architecture of your project, and include a diagram illustrating the dataflow and how the content moves through the system you are developing. There is also free and non-free diagramming software available.
